After 20 years of practicing yoga, I realized that the same questions continued to pop into my head and interrupt my Zen zone. “Are my heels aligned?”, “Are my hands shoulder width apart?”, “Are my feet hip width apart?” “Where, exactly is 3’ on my mat?”
I realized that these questions would be easily answered if I had a grid on my mat. But, I wanted more than just lines, circles, and numbers. I wanted it to look beautiful, simple, and Zen.
After working for 8 years as a personal trainer, with clients of all types, I realized that the most important part of any activity is what is happening in your core. In addition to working on the Gurugrid, I am a wife and mom of 2 boys. I am also a breast cancer survivor. 2 weeks after the Gurugrid was launched on Kickstarter, I got the diagnoses. The decision was made to continue with the business. It was the right decision. Not only did it keep me focussed on creating something, but the experience of healing from a double mastectomy, chemo, and radiation became an indelible part of the Gurugrid.
